In 2007 my good friend Mike Evans introduced me to Gwyndaf Evans to discuss putting together a plan to arrange the finance to run a 2 car Team in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy in the UK and Ireland. This meant we would be busy but this would give our young crew’s as much experience as possible. In a very short amount of time Gwyndaf put everything together and the Hustings/GEMsport Team was launched at Motor show at Birmingham NEC.
There were many ups and downs but by the end of our first season Elfyn Evans and Gareth Roberts had won both the Irish and UK FST Championships. The first time the double had been achieved.
Meilyr Evans and Andrew Edwards finished high up in the rankings as well and often had the fastest stage times. It was an exciting year.
Since then Elfyn has progressed and as his website says “in 2012, Elfyn secured the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) Academy title, the R2 title in the British Rally Championship (BRC) and the UK Fiesta Sport Trophy. If that wasn’t enough he also won the end-of-year FST International Shootout” See www.elfynevans.com for latest news.
Sadly some of the members of the original team are no longer with us but we feel that they would be proud of what was achieved and has been achieved since. The objective was always to see whether these young drivers were quick enough and it seems the Elfyn is answering that question through his results. Please click on the heading above to see a collection of pictures from that year by clicking on the title of this piece or of that is not workinghttp://www.flickr.com/photos/williamcarey/sets/72157633078419618/
